When a check no longer has value to a casino and cannot be redeemed, the
casino will cancel the check by drilling, shaving, over-stamping, or
scratched. Unused manufacturer samples are typically notched. |

Issued by a casino to celebrate an topic, person, or event. Many, but not
all are issued in limited quantities. |

(Chip of the Year)- Awarded annually by vote of Club-Member
judges of the CC>CC. |

Counterfeit-
An unauthorized copy, made by someone to either defraud the casino or
collectors. |

Dovetail-
A chip where the body consists of two colors, divided down the middle,
and one of the colors protrudes into the other in shape of carpenter's
dovetail. |
 | Error- Contains a
mistake in manufacturing such as: off-center inlays, missing inserts, wrong
body color...etc. The $2.50 yellow Harrah's Reno/Tahoe Brass core is an

 | Fantasy- Appears to
be a casino chip, but the casino never existed. Manufactured often for use
as home poker chip sets. |
 | Incused- Certain
mold designs are pressed or recessed into the rim of the chip. |
 | Limited Edition (LE)-
Made by a casino in less than typical numbers, mainly for the collector
market. Often the chips are commemorating a topic, person, or event. |
 | No Cash Value (NCV)-
May contain a denomination, but is not redeemable for cash by the issuing
casino. Used in promotions, match plays, and tournaments. |
 | Notched- A check
canceled, usually by the manufacturer, by clipping small pieces from the
check. |
 | Prototype- A sample
made by the manufacturer to demonstrate how the production chip will look. |
 | Snipe (Sniping)-
Bidding at the last moment to win an
auction. |
 | SSOTY (Silver Strike of the
Year)- Awarded annually by Club-Member judges of the CC>CC. |
 | TOTY (Token of the Year)-
Awarded annually by Club-Member judges of the CC>CC. |
